Jasmin, the traditional gift
In Thailand, a traditional Mother’s Day gift is jasmine — a flower that represents motherhood. Jasmine or ‘Mali’ is used in worship and is also seen as a symbol of purity and gentleness.
Celebrating Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day in Thailand starts with the children giving Jasmin flowers to their mothers and the mothers giving blessings in return.
Schools in Thailand usually host a Mother’s Day ceremony. Mothers come to the school, and each child kneels at their mother’s feet, offering her their own handmade card as a sign of gratitude.
Older children also give their mother a special gift or take mom out for a special meal. Some restaurants have special promotions on this national holiday so that children can enjoy happy times with their mothers and the whole family. Popular traditions include:
