Belly mapping: where is my baby exactly?

Your Child

Belly mapping: where is my baby exactly?

Your Child is positioned head-down, facing your back, with the chin tucked to its chest and the back of the head ready to enter the pelvis, which is the ideal position for labor. It is called the cephalic presentation.

When will Your Child get into position?
Most babies settle into head-down position within the 32nd to 36th week of pregnancy.

Why do we need to know where Your Child is?
Your midwife or doctors needs to know Your Child’s exact position so as to plan a safe delivery. If the little one is not in the right position, a C-section might be the safer choice.

How can I prepare for birth?
In order to prepare for delivery, there are some specific exercises you can do to strengthen your core, your pelvis, and your pelvic floor muscles. Staying active and in motion might also help Your Child get into the right position.

How to tell where Your Child is right now?
You might be able to visualize how your baby is lying from their movements. Tickles might be their little hands waving around, while harder movements could be their elbows, knees, or feet. The head feels particularly hard and round. The only way to tell for sure what way your baby is lying is through an ultrasound scan.
