According to what is known as the Attachment Theory, a strong physical and emotional bond with our mother, father (or primary caretaker) during the first few years of life is crucial for a child's development. If strong bonds are rooted, a child will feel safe and secure, which gives them the confidence to explore their surroundings. If those same bonds are weak, a child will feel the need to keep themselves rooted, and as a result, feels afraid to leave or explore a world full of unknowns. Insecurely attached children may have trouble forming healthy relationships and understanding and processing their feelings later in life.
