How we can help children develop perfect vision

At birth, Your Child’s vision is at an early stage of development. Since visual development is a natural process, there may not be much you can do to influence the process.
However, visual abilities develop in stages. Here are some of the things you can do to facilitate Your Child’s visual development at each stage:
Birth to four months
- Place reach-and-touch toys within your baby’s focus, about 20-30 centimeters
- Try to talk and sing to Your Child as often you can
- Use a nightlight or other dim lamp in any room Your Child is staying
- Change the crib’s position frequently and change your baby’s position in it
- Always try to alternate right and left sides with each feeding
Five to eight months
- Hang a mobile, crib gym or various objects across the crib for Your Child to grab, pull, and kick
- Allow Your Child to play and explore on the floor
- Provide plastic or wooden blocks that can be held in the hands
- You can play patty cake and other games, moving Your Child’s hands through the motions while saying the words aloud
- Give Your Child plenty of tummy time to encourage crawling, which promotes eye-hand coordination
Nine to twelve months
- Play peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek games with toys or your face to help your baby develop visual memory
- Always name objects when talking to encourage Your Child’s word association and vocabulary development skills
- Get a lot of pictorial storybooks for Your Child
- Read to Your Child as often as you can
One to two years
- You can roll a ball back and forth to help Your Child track objects with the eyes visually
- Provide Your Child with building blocks and balls of all shapes and sizes to play with to boost fine motor skills and small muscle development
- Read storybooks with Your Child
