Puts things in and out of a container

Your Child can now use the fingers to grasp objects and also voluntarily release them.

By 12 months, children’s fine motor and cognitive skills have developed enough that they can pick things up, put things in a container, and take things out of a container.

How to support this development
Give Your Child many different toys to play with and fit into boxes. Toys, such as puzzles where certain shapes fit into certain spaces, may be very helpful at this stage.

Note: All children develop differently and at their own pace. For children born preterm, the referred timeframe for achieving the various developmental milestones might be incorrect.

Source: The information and graphs about when children reach specific milestones are taken from various sources, including the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Denver Developmental Screening Test, and the State Institute of Early Childhood Research, Germany (IFP).
