Certain yoga poses can improve blood circulation to the reproductive organs, promoting better ovarian function and potentially improving the chances of conception. Here are a few examples:
Legs Up the Wall Pose: This restorative pose allows for increased circulation to the pelvic organs
- Start by sitting next to a wall
- Carefully swing your legs up onto the wall while pivoting your body to lie down on your back
- Allow your arms to fall out to your sides, palms facing up Relax and breathe deeply
- Hold it for up to 5-15 minutes
Cobra Pose: This pose is believed to stimulate the reproductive organs
- Lie on your stomach with your hands under your shoulders, elbows close to your body
- Push through your hands to lift your chest, drawing your shoulders back
- Hold for a few breaths, then lower back down
- Hold this pose for 15-30 seconds. Repeat 5 times, with a 15-second rest in between
Butterfly Pose: This pose helps to open up the hips and increase flexibility in the pelvic area
- Bring the soles of your feet together in front of you and let your knees fall out to the sides
- Hold your feet or your ankles and breathe deeply
- You can stay in this pose for 1-5 minutes
Seated Forward Bend: This pose can help to calm the mind and reduce stress, while also stretching the lower back, hamstrings, and hips
- Sit with your legs extended straight out in front of you
- Reach forward to hold your feet or any part of your leg that’s accessible, keeping your spine long
- Gently bend forward, leading with the chest
- Aim to hold this pose for 1-3 minutes
Reclining Bound Angle Pose: This is a relaxing pose that can open the hips and stimulate the reproductive organs
- Start seated with your legs in Butterfly Pose with the soles of the feet together and knees out to the sides
- Carefully lie back, keeping your legs in the same position
- Relax your arms out to the sides, palms facing up
- Hold this for up to 5-10 minutes at the end of a yoga session or before bedtime.
While these poses can be beneficial, remember that everybody is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It can also be very helpful to work with a yoga instructor who is familiar with fertility yoga to guide you in these poses.
Other forms of exercise with similar benefits
