The bubbles or pearls in the teas consist of tapioca starch, sweet potato powder, potato powder, or jelly. The tea itself is often sweetened with sugar and sometimes sweetened condensed milk. All these ingredients are high in sugar.
Excessive sugar might result in too much weight gain and gestational diabetes, which is harmful for your baby.
What to drink:
- Unsweetened tea
What to drink with consideration:
- Limited amount of bubble tea. In case you really have a strong craving for bubble tea, try and limit it to just once or twice a month.
- Less sweetened tea
What to avoid:
- Too many drinks that are high in sugar
