Meat got plenty of protein, B vitamins and iron, all of which are important for your baby’s growth. However, not all meat is the same and not all meat is good for you.
What to eat:
- Thoroughly cook chicken, pork or other meat
What to eat with consideration:
These meats need to be cooked until they are very hot and there is no trace of pink blood:
- Sausage
- Can meats
- Minced meat, including larb
- Burgers
Other meet you can eat with consideration:
- Chinese pork buns
- Grilled chicken, pork or beef
- Pre-packed meats such as ham
What to avoid: Raw or undercooked meat has the potential risk of toxoplasmosis, an infection caused by a parasite.
- Undercooked meat
- Refrigerated pates and spreads
- Raw meat
- Meat joints
- Rare steak
- Fermented pork
- Dried sausage
- Sour sausage
Good to know: The risk of parasites in cured or fermented meats can be reduced by freezing the meat for 4 days before you cook it.
