Liver contains many healthy nutrients, but also high amounts of preformed vitamin A, or retinol. Too much of this type of vitamin in your diet has been linked to birth defects, especially during the first months of pregnancy.
Pregnant women are therefore advised not to consume more than 10000 IU/day, the equivalent of around 30 grams of liver.
Note that most prenatal vitamins prescribed by the doctor, contain enough amount of vitamin A to support a healthy pregnancy.

- Cod liver oil
What to avoid:
- Liver meat
- Liver pâté
- Liver sausage
