Milk
Food guide
Milk and dairy products are good sources of protein and calcium. They also have vitamin D and protein and helps build your baby’s bones and teeth.
What to drink:
To make healthier choices, drink milk without any added sugar:
- Pasteurized milk
- Ultra-heat treated (UHT) milk
- Skim milk
What to avoid:
- Unpasteurized milk (unpasteurized milk contains bacteria and can cause food poisoning).
Good alternatives:
If you have trouble digesting dairy products or if you don’t want to consume diary due to ethical or health issues, there are some good alternatives. The following alternatives are often enriched with high levels of calcium and vitamins and hence great for new moms:
- Almond milk
- Rice milk
- Soya milk
